Transaminase reference values in a senegalese adult population.

fThis w ork aims atest.ab lishing the normal values of transaminases (aspartate aminotransferase and al anine aminotransferase) in a Senegal ese adult population. lndividuals in our cohort were selected, on a posteriori basis, among workers in a Senegalese company. Transaminases (AL T and AST) were assayed u s ing enzymatic methods (at 37 '), wlthout pyridoxal phosphate, BIOLABO, Mai z y , France) adapted to the A 15 chemistry automaton (Biosystems, Barcelona , Spain). We fou nd AL T and AST normal values, which were respectively (12-40 lU 1 1) a nd (8-46 lU / 1). The distribution of normal values based on age a nd sex s hows an increase i n t ransaminases with age in women and a significantly h igher ratewas found in men com pared to womon. Normal values of t ransaminases in the study population w ere hig her than those of the manufacturer. This shows the interest of determining normal values which are speci fie to the population. Our resul ts also s howed that sex is a fa ctor of transaminases variation. lt i s therefore n ecessary to t.ake this factor into account while rep resenting them.
